Through these images, we celebrate the unique stories, personalities, and appreciations that connect us. This series serves as a visual tribute to the community that embodies the essence of Nicole & Rose, highlighting how our designs seamlessly fit into their everyday lives.

Meet Kiah Kane from @kiah_ceramics, a Calgary artist with a beautiful story.

Can you tell us a bit about your background and how it influenced your entrepreneurial journey?

I was fortunate to be raised by a remarkable female entrepreneur, which is why I, too, have embraced the entrepreneurial spirit. My mother embarked on her journey at the age of 23, founding a local gym in Calgary called Heaven’s Fitness. For 45 years, she has not only owned and managed this business but has also become a global consultant, sharing her expertise through weekly conferences and guiding many prominent fitness companies.

As I grow older, I increasingly recognize her influence within me. Although she never formally taught me the art of entrepreneurship, I learned by observing her resilience and dedication. She is the reason I aspire to be an entrepreneur, and in many ways, I already am.

What practices or routines help you maintain self-love daily?

While I wish I had a more ingenious answer, I practice self-love through fashion. Although my style may not be groundbreaking, I am intentional with my choices. I understand what makes me feel confident, and I curate my wardrobe accordingly, keeping only those pieces that resonate with me. My clothing plays a significant role in my confidence, and I have assembled a beautiful collection, featuring many beautiful pieces from Nicole and Rose.

Can you share a specific affirmation that has been particularly powerful for you and why?

I deserve this. It can be uncomfortable for me to recognize that opportunities are not merely chance; they are something I truly deserve. I often overlook the hard work I’ve invested and downplay my abilities. This affirmation serves as a reminder to refocus and acknowledge the effort it took to arrive at this moment.

How do you integrate creativity into your everyday life?

I have an incredibly creative daily routine that almost borders on the absurd. By day, I work as an artist for Anthropologie, where I design and handcraft displays for their retail spaces. My studio, nestled at the back of the Calgary Chinook store, is my creative sanctuary where I spend nine hours each day bringing ideas to life and often exploring new techniques.

After work, I transition to my ceramic studio, dedicating my evenings to furthering my artistic practice. While I could easily lose myself in clay until the early hours, I make a conscious effort to strike a balance. In the moments between these endeavors, I indulge in dancing, baking, or knitting. I feel incredibly fortunate to spend my days immersed in creativity.

What advice would you give to someone struggling with self-love in their creative journey?

Embrace every opportunity you can. During my university years, remaining open to various forms of creation proved invaluable. I believe my multidisciplinary approach allowed me to push boundaries further than some of my classmates, who focused solely on one discipline. This mindset has also been crucial in my career. When I took the position at Anthropologie, I possessed only basic skills for the tasks at hand. Yet, after four years in this role, I continue to learn something new every day. My willingness to tackle challenges outside my comfort zone has advanced my career.

It’s wonderful to know you enjoy a particular type of creative practice, but don’t limit yourself to perfecting just that. Instead, take time to explore other avenues. At first, the connections may not be apparent, but over time, you’ll recognize their impact—and that’s when you truly begin to push beyond your limits.
